Our New Utility Model Registration!

From research to insight and design, from design to a registered invention…

Not every design begins with an idea. Some begin by listening.

This project was conducted within ID 401 Industrial Design Studio V, Fall 2023, through an extensive Design Thinking process focusing on the experiences of mothers who, for various reasons, were unable to breastfeed their babies. Interviews explored their needs, challenges, and the physical and emotional dimensions of breastfeeding beyond feeding itself.

The insights led to the development of “Beyaz Ay,” a breast milk sharing and distribution service system. As a physical component of this system, the Baby Breastfeeding Apparatus was designed to support access to breast milk while contributing to the physical and emotional closeness associated with breastfeeding.

The design has now received Utility Model Registration. 🤍

This achievement demonstrates how research, empathy, service design, and product design can come together to address a genuine social need. It also highlights the potential of design to create social impact and the power of design education to generate solutions for real-life challenges.

Our sincere thanks to IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, the IZTECH Research Directorate, and the İzmir Teknopark Technology Transfer Office (TTO) for supporting our work and intellectual property processes.
